The Starbites - Taste of Desert releases in Japan for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch on October 16

Happinet has announced that they will release Ikina Games' The Starbites - Taste of Desert in Japan for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch on October 16. The South Korea-made dystopian mecha RPG will be simply known in Japan as Starbites.

For the record, this game was first revealed at the Tokyo Game Show 2024 Xbox showcase. Other than Xbox Series X|S, the game is also slated to appear on PC and PS5. However, today's Japanese announcement by Happinet instead only confirmed releases on the PS5 and Switch. It remains to be seen whether the newly revealed Switch version will also be available in the still-pending global English release.

The Japanese press release also included explanations for some of the gameplay features in Starbites. Other than pilot skills and 4-part mech customizations, it also explained the game's battle system.

  • Break - Enemies in this game will have an elemental weakness, and depleting their barriers with the said element will cause them to Break and make them immobile for several turns.
  • Supporter - Supporter characters can be set to each main party member. The former will provide additional attacks whenever an enemy goes into a Break.
  • Driver's High - A feature triggerable with the DH gauge, which fills from dealing and receiving damage. This will give various benefits to the user, such as moving first during the turn and improved skill effects.
